Pondering A Change

I’ve been pondering this evening a slight business change. I’m pondering investing in a coffee shop with internet cafe. It would be a great place to work and equally great place to give back to the community. I have the location picked out with an investment partner he’s been bugging me about it for a few weeks. I’m going to think about it and pray about it for a few weeks and see if its the right thing to do. It’s right on the beach and should be a hit during the spring and summer months. I don’t want to take to active a role in day to day operations but I’d definetly help get it started, supply the startup capital, and I already have most of the equipment including espresso machines, desktop computers, etc.

What do you think?

Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like a big investment with multiple facets to it. I like the idea of having someplace to go and work and be around people. When providing a service like coffee tho, then you have to deal with finding “baristas” and folks who will show up to make the drinks. Finding reliable workers is the hardest part, and if selling the coffee is the money making part, that woud be crucial. And how much coffee would you have to sell in order to make a profit? With an internet cafe, the customers could be nursing one cup of coffee for hours. Something to think about.

But one idea I did have for you that goes along with your idea is to create a cool co-working facility (reminiscent of “you know where” 😉 ). So then your money would be coming from something solid and dependable–rent. And you would get it in advance and wouldn’t need workers. You would just need to develop the space on the beach and find folks who wanted to lease “office” space. You wouldn’t even need to provide computers–folks would bring their laptops. And you could work there too. It just seems like a food service business would get hard to operate after while and be kind of more high maintance than you might want. It’s a great idea, but I would go for something along the same lines but simpler.

Sidenote–you have espresso machines, plural??? You’re full of surprises, aren’t ya? 🙂
