Recently I was contacted by Hardwood Interior Doors, about a possible partnership. in selling doors on our Interior Door Shop website which ranks highly for various terms in the door industry. In the end Bob Grey at Hardwood Interior Doors decided to purchase Interior Door Shop from us for an amount that would put us at ‘break even’ but give our business a much needed cash infusion in order for expansion of existing successes. His motivation was to keep us from operating in his space, as well as providing insurance for his site which has a top 10 rankings on Google. He also expressed an interest in me optimizing his site for Google.

Over the course of the next few weeks he placed a deposit, but after a server move Interior Door Shop had some serious dns issues that caused it to be delisted from The Goog for a short time. Bob at Hardwood Interior Doors claimed he had no confidence in my seo skills and he no longer wanted to deal with me, he also cussed me out, and called my seo work ‘half assed’. He then attempted to renegotiate the contract after it was signed for a significantly less amount than what the site is already making with out his products or any partnership with his company. In the end anyone who wants to renegotiate a contract after it’s been signed is not someone I can feel cozy working with. He said that was ‘his final offer’. Meaning he was not going to live up to the other contract. So I told him his intent to not live up to his end of the deal meant a forfeiture of his deposit.

So what do you do, when a partnership fails? When someone you put a lot of faith in simply insults you, cusses you out and then walks away wasting lots of man hours and energy?

One option was to get frustrated, my other option was to saddle back up and go out in search of a new partner or go back to my former supplier with new motivations of developing a more profitable site to make up for our loss of time and energy in attempting to develop a partnership with Hardwood Interior Doors.

  1. I’m sorry you had to go through such a *frustrating* experience!!!! You certainly don’t deserve that kind of treatment. I’m glad to see you have such a positive attitude about it when it’s all said and done. 🙂
