How To Solve Homelessness

Having fought a battle with homelessness myself I really understand some of life’s trials that homeless have to deal with. Homeless people are considered the scum of the earth, and yet so many of them are just people like me and you who are battered by life’s problems. I believe the homeless are those who are no longer able to sustain themselves. It’s a cumulative effect of problems, some of them are addictions, emotional problems, chemical inbalances, health problems, family problems, financial problems. Either way they are overwhelmed and no longer able to cope, process, and manage their daily lives.

There is a solution.

The solution is messy, the solution means personal sacrifice and risk for those who are stronger. But we have an obligation to not judge the homeless, but to rescue them from the suffering of brokenness. The Christian Church has failed the poor, the homeless, and the aged in our society. They have forgotten the very people that matter most. The ones that really are the chosen people of a compassionate God.

Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world. ~ The Message

The solution is solving homelessness is to stop thinking of them as homeless, get down and relate to them on their level, and love them. Help where you can, and advise where you can, and show them the tools to overcome their plight, sharing life with them. This is true religion, and one of the most important things we can do this side of heaven.
